Safety First: Captain Lukman Earns SWA Recognition Award from Chevron Indonesia Co.

JAKARTA — Upholding rigorous quality and safety standards in maritime operations has once again brought distinction to PT. Baruna Raya Logistics. Captain Lukman of the Crewboat Mandar has been officially honored with a prestigious Stop Work Authority (SWA) Recognition Award by Chevron Indonesia Co. for his exemplary decision-making and steadfast commitment to safety.
Exercising Authority for Safety at the Yakin Oilfield
The recognition stems from an incident on December 5, 2015, while operating a vessel at the Yakin Oilfield. Faced with a critical safety threshold, Captain Lukman demonstrated textbook execution of safety protocols:
- The Situation: The total passenger count reached 75 people, exceeding the vessel’s maximum certified capacity of 70 heads.
- The Challenge: Despite pressure from an unregistered individual suggesting that operations continue despite the overcrowding, Captain Lukman stood firm.
- The Action: Exercising his Stop Work Authority (SWA)—a core tenet derived from Baruna’s Safety Management Manual (SMM), the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, and company QHSE policies—the captain halted operations immediately until safety compliance was restored.
A Culture Rooted in Rigorous Training
This commendable action highlights the effectiveness of Baruna Raya Logistics’ ongoing safety culture. Crew members and personnel regularly undergo comprehensive training programs echoing the Baruna Raya Logistics Safety Management Manual and the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) ISM Code.
These initiatives ensure that all personnel remain well-versed in safety guidelines and are fully empowered to put safety above operational pressures whenever they are out operating vessels in the field.
